Domaine Duseigneur Matteo Chateauneuf Du Pape 2020

The 2020 Chteauneuf Du Pape Matteo checks in as 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah all from the Gallimardes lieu-dit in the south part of the appellation. Spicy red fruits, loamy earth, herbes de Provence, and peppery notes define the bouquet, and it’s medium-bodied, with a supple, elegant mouthfeel, light tannins, and a great finish. It’s surprisingly elegant and finesse-driven (the Gallimardes lieu-dit often produces, big, powerful wines), it has terrific balance, and should evolve gracefully for 10-12 years.

Brilliant Violet. Potent cherry, black raspberry and candied lavender, pick up licorice, smoked meat and baking spice qualities with air. Chewy, densely packed black and blue fruit liqueur, and floral pastille flavors open up quickly with air, and an exotic spice nuance adds back end cut. Gently chewy tannins add grip to an impressively long, florally accented finish that echoes the dark berry note.
